2008 Cleveland, Ohio ~ 15th April onwards ~ Swimming Workshop applying the principles of the Alexander Technique

Lifeworks indoor pool

Swimming to improve your health, as a form of exercise, or to keep fit, is wholeheartedly recommended by nearly everyone dealing with health or fitness. For many, however, it can seem like too much work, or is just not enjoyable. The reason may well be that more often than not, people simply need to learn a different method of swimming from the one they learned as a child or adolescent. Not all swimming methods are the same, and likewise not all swim instruction methods are the same. If you want to maximise your health benefits you need to look into a completely different way of swimming and learn to swim Steph's Way of Swimming.

Taking the Plunge?

Whatever your goal, whether it's to learn to swim, to perfect your swimming stroke, to improve your health, or simply to improve and maintain your health and fitness, a swim instruction program can be developed to meet your needs. This workshop will offer group classes with supplemental individual sessions available.

Group Swimming Classes -

Groups are purposefully kept small to maintain the highest teaching standard. I remain in the water to guide and direct a pupil's movement. Instruction is available in all strokes and the following themes are covered:

  • Fear of the water
  • Breathing with ease
  • How to release tension and achieve greater comfort
  • Reducing resistance and becoming more streamlined

Follow-up One to One Swimming Lessons - Particularly suited to less confident swimmers or to those who prefer or need more personal attention:

  • Clients with special needs or goals
  • Clients with Arthritis or Multiple Sclerosis
  • Clients who have a fear of the water or lack water confidence
  • Clients training for Triathlons
  • Clients who would like to improve their stroke(s)

ALSO AVAILABLE: Working Together - This class is offered to those who are interested in working with each other, or supporting each other in the water, and developing a deeper connection with each other.

For a partner who has a fear of the water, the supporting partner will be shown simple water confidence techniques, which will help to build trust and will enable the partner to feel at home in the water.

If one partner has a disability, techniques can be taught to help that partner with stretching and movement exercises in the water. This enables many disabled peopled to experience a new level of freedom and enjoyment while helping to maintain and improve their health.

For able swimmers, who would like to improve their stroke technique(s), skills will be taught to ensure that they swim calmly and effortlessly.

The partner who is observing can be taught to readily spot any movement that appears to be incorrect. This can prevent the swimmer from consolidating bad habits.

Working together can be deeply rewarding. "It's not just about one partner giving to the other but about supporting each other - giving and receiving" - Stephanie Dutton
